[ he's contributing a blanket to their not-frolicking, so they have somewhere nice to settle in with their coffee and sandwiches. leaning back on his hands to enjoy true photosynthesis!!!! ]
A bit, but at this point I'll take what I can get. Feels like it shouldn't be real in the middle of an airport. It's like the weird outdoor spaces we had aboard the Eudora... wrong, but... when you're stuck inside most of the time you can't bear to question it too too much.
[ grown ass men on their little picnic................ ]
I've never been particularly outdoorsy. Most of my studies were in labs and greenhouses. [ nom. sammich. ] But you're right, after so long stuck indoors it's not worth questioning.
Not all violent spirits are evil. And sometimes the kinder option is the one that saves the most lives. Not sure it helped at all, though.
[ these horses are still assholes. ]
The small drink, the soot, the video. I think we all just assumed it was Kate and moved on to the next. No one wanted to unpack that at this late stage.
It's true... one of the kids I look after back home, she sees the spirits
of the dead, channels them... many of them are just seeking peace.
[ we WILL still beat them in that race. ]
Yeah... the soot... that was just from the fire we'd started, I imagine...
[ he looks a bit sheepish about that. i really wanted to give her
the best chance... ] Yoru came to me looking to have a
conversation about it - and I agreed to letting her kill me, but... the
stampede was an accident, there was no point in letting her be caught in
the rush as well.
A medium? That's a useful skill, but sometimes difficult on the mind. [ contemplates his sandwich for a moment. ] Peace and safety should be the ultimate goal. And this horse seems justified in a lot of its anger.
[ capitalism ruins everything as usual. ]
Ah, that's what it was. It's not surprising that you agreed.
A medium, though... she grows weaker with every use. A chance to speak with
my father once more wasn't worth risking her life any further.
[ he smiles a little fondly, but then hums. ]
If we can put these spirits to rest, then it'll have all been worth it in
the end. [ a soft nod towards him. ] The people we've met
and the connections we've made along the way make it even better.
[ turning to look at him a moment, thoughtfully. ]
There's no doubt in my mind that we'll take these 'auditors' down. Everyone
here has faced insurmountable odds... there's no way we'll "trip at the
finish line" as they say.
[ he returns that questioning tilt of the head with a huff.
]
I can only imagine, you have to be with the weight of your work. There are
a lot of people who count on you, it sounds like... and from what I saw
last...
Those who protect sometimes can't help but catastrophize... it takes a
level head on top of it to survey situations with such care. They're lucky
to have someone like you, though.
Most of my colleagues would disagree with that. Apparently I run my mouth a bit too often to remain popular amongst the other squadrons. Yet my title is still "of Silence"... maybe that was someone's joke.
[ it's a little amusing. ]
Truly my disposition is delicate, you know? I'll lose an interesting coin on my desk and fall into despair for a week.
Particular about where everything's placed, huh - to go into full on
despair, Mordalion... remind me never to move your things. I'd hate to see
the spiral.
It's not the placement, exactly. I'm not very organised. It's more the idea of keeping something interesting or looking forward to a treat and losing that. Small joys being taken from me.
[ oh! well... at that clarification he softens up a bit. ]
Considering the rigors of your work... this shouldn't surprise me, then. Do those sorts of things slip through your grasp often...?
Small joys are sometimes all we get with how life comes hurtling at us with all sorts of problems and dangers. It's the best way we can enjoy it at times.
When not focused on a task, I can be clumsy. Dropping an ice cream scoop on the ground, tearing a sweater, poorly pruning a plant. All of those make me very upset.
[ hmmm. lists a few examples, checking off on his fingers. ]
Good food, especially sweets. Seeing a new flower bloom. Finding a rare CD or collectible. That kind of thing.
You ever get any of that lemon poppyseed cake I made for that one party
Jacopo hosted early on? I can see about maybe baking something for you
before we go.
[ gently nudges shoulder. small joys... they're important. ]
If we get to stay in touch after all this is over, I'll show you the music
shop aboard the Eudora as well. It's got plenty of music from across the
galaxy stored there - perhaps there'll be something you'd like to take with
you.
...I didn't. [ a sparkle in his eye, clearly interested. ] Please let me try it, if we're able to find the time before whatever nonsense the weekend requires.
[ blinks at the nudge... nudges a little back, perhaps apologetically. ]
Kazuki actually took me there for a little while. It's his main interest, and we were able to find some common ground there. It's big enough that multiple visits wouldn't even scratch the surface, though, so I'd like to visit it again. Hear your tastes, if you'll show me.
I'll make it for you one last time then. You can take it to your team if
you want to share, or eat it yourself - I won't judge. Might be one of the
last times I can do such a thing before I'm back to work again, so I'd be
happy to.
[ he just seems to smile fondly at that. he likes kazuki, a
lot. ]
Kazuki seems to have been around quite a bit - he was on board the Eudora
when I was helping look after everyone with the rest of the Senior Crew...
[ he closes his eyes, carefully flopping back now that his sandwich
is finished, a hand resting behind his head as he lays back. ] I
would like that. The Eudora should have more visitors - she's a record of
history, a ship that preserves knowledge of many places and creatures and
people... she'd do well to learn more from others.

I left a group of those plush horses in the basement last week. In case the horse haunting the place was lonely.
